Examination Committee

In its ongoing commitment to become an institution highly recognized for quality in both teaching and assessment practices, the Examination Cell of S K Somaiya College of Arts, Science and Commerce (College Code: 540, affiliated with the University of Mumbai) is dedicated to establishing a transparent, efficient, and student-centric evaluation system. The primary objective of this system is to accurately measure the extent of knowledge students have acquired and to encourage them to enhance their understanding and academic performance over time.

The Examination Cell places strong emphasis on fairness and clarity in its assessment methods, ensuring that students feel confident in the integrity of the evaluation process. Timely declaration of results is seen as a crucial element in building trust and maintaining academic momentum.

To keep a check on the matters of unfair means used by students at the time of examination, all the instructions, rules and regulations are printed on the hall tickets and answer book's front page regarding this. Students are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations while he/she appears for examinations.

Examination Structure:

As the college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, the prescribed examination structure is as follows:

  1. The evaluation of theory papers is done at the end of each semester, from semester I to IV at college examinations in all subjects.
  2. The evaluation of all internals (projects or practicals) during each semester and the evaluation of theory papers is done at the end of each semester, from semester I to IV at college examinations.
  3. Under NEP, continuous evaluation of student’s performance has become the norm of the day. This process aims at measuring the degree of knowledge assimilated by students during the course of study without causing excess pressure.
  4. The minimum percentage for passing each course is 40% at each semester.

Centralized Assessment of Papers (CAP)

As the college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, college follows a well-established practice of centralized assessment for the evaluation of answer scripts from theory examinations, which are held at the end of each semester. This method ensures that the assessment process is systematic, secure, and free from bias.

Once the semester-end exams are successfully conducted, the answer sheets for all subjects are securely stored in a designated room that is specifically assigned for the centralized assessment of papers. This ensures that the evaluation process is kept confidential and maintains the integrity and decorum required for proper assessment.

After the initial evaluation, the process includes a stage of moderation, which involves reviewing and verifying the evaluations to ensure fairness and accuracy in grading. This moderation step is crucial to maintain the credibility of the assessment and ensure that all students are assessed fairly.
