About Department

The Department of Business Law was established in 1995 alongside the college at Vidyavihar. Since its inception, the department has focused on instilling legal awareness and analytical thinking in commerce students, preparing them for the legal dimensions of the business world.

The department was initially led by Ms. Suchita Sahastrabuddhe, followed by Dr. Swati Rautela, who expanded its academic scope. It is currently headed by Dr. Vaishali Kharat, with Adv. Jasmin Sata assisting in managing additional departmental responsibilities.

Business Law is offered in the third and fourth semesters of the B.Com (Second Year) program, following the syllabus prescribed by the University of Mumbai. The subject introduces students to essential legal concepts in areas such as contract law, company law and consumer rights, which are vital in today’s corporate environment.

To enhance practical legal awareness, the department established the Legal Clinic Cell in 2017–18. The cell offers free legal counseling and helps students navigate personal legal issues, promoting both learning and community service.

The Department of Business Law remains committed to academic excellence, legal literacy and student support through dynamic teaching and meaningful initiatives.
